TIPS ON GROOMING

Any long-haired breed will need regular grooming to keep the dogs skin and coat health and clean. The newfie is no exception, having a double coat consisting of a top layer of long coarse hair and a dense, shorter under coat which being oily repels the wet. It is also veryeffective at keeping out extremes of cold and heat.
A puppy has several stages of coat growth up untill it is approximately 18mths old, this is when the adult coat will come through.
BRUSHING.
The best place to groom is on a grooming table if possible as this saves a lot of  backache. Choose a time when your dog is feeling relaxed  attempting to groom a dog who is excited, or eager to go for walkies, is a waste of time. If you train your puppy from an early age he/she will learn to accept the grooming procedure. The best method is to lift the hair upwards with one hand and comb the hair below your hand down to the skin.

BATHING.
Normally, bathing is only neccessary two or three times a year, for pets that are regularly groomed. However if you show your dog,you would have to bath them much more regularly. but also remember that bathing a dog to much can take out all the natural oils in the coat. after you have bathed your dog get him/her dry i find it is a must to have a blaster, this gets nearly all the water out , dont use a hair dryer, as the heat is to much on them. make sure that you groom them thourghly getting all mats out  and checking behind ears and the long feathering on back and front legs. of course this is for people with a long haired breed. The short hair breeds are much easier.
EQUIPMENT
A slicker brush is a must ,A medium comb, A  wide-toothed comb,Bristle brush, and a pin brush trimming scissors thinning scissors. and a mat-cutting rake  are lall good grooming equipment. if you do your grooming with kindness and patience on a regular basis  it will help create a bond of trust and affection between you and your dog. and you will have a dog to be proud of. also remember the younger you start your dog getting use to grooming the better.Below are pics of grooming a quitment.

This is me useing what is called a blaster , i do this before i bath my dogs to take out a lot of the dust that gathers in their thick double coat.
A blaster is something like a hoover but it blows out in stead of sucking up.I will add a photo of it very soon.
