Every dog owner wants a heleathy pet, but problems major or minor, are bound to arise from time to time. Ti is important to understand the types of disorder that can affect your dog and to observe the signs of illness so that you can give an accurate description to your vet. Basic signsof illness are , the dog is off its food or the dog is running a temperature, or crying in pain all these are an indecation the dog is not well.Use these to gain an idea of what is wrong, how serious it is and what is the best form of action to take. But if you have any doubts at all take your dog to the vet. Your dog rerelies on you for its heleath and well being.MAKE SURE IT HAS THE APPROPRIATE VACCINATIONS TO PROTECT IT AGAINST INFECTIOUS DISEASES.

THE VETS EXAMINATION
Unless the problem is obviously localized, the vet will examin your dogs whole body, starting at the head and working downwards. EYES AND NOSE, are inspected for discharges( dont clean them before you visit) EARS,are looked into with the naked eye and may be smelled or investigated wiyh an auriscope. SKIN AND COAT,the vet will run his hands over the body to feel for lumps or bumps or areas of mattered hair which could suggest weeping from the skin.RESPIRATION,the vet watches this when the dog arrives and also as it settles down. GUMS. are examined for signs of anaemia, jaundice, haemorrhage and dental problems. CHEST AND LUNGS,the vet listens to these with a stethoscope. TESTE, in males the presence of two nomal testes is checked. BREASTS in mature bitches these are checked for tumours. INTERNAL ORGANS the vet palpates these if the dog isnt to fat.

These are some of the PARASITES dogs get.

SCRATCHING.
THINGS TO LOOK FOR,parasites (fleas, lice, mites.) bacterial sores small, infected spots and scaly, red inflamed areas. try antiparasitic bath, if in doubt treat for fleas. Generalized bacterial sores, or ear problems impacted anal sacs need veterinary attention.HAIR LOSS things to look for broken hairs in the coat, inflamed skin, bald areas, excessive prolonged moult. common causes of hair loss without irritation are hormonal and need veterinary treatment. if diet is the problem, multivitamins and extra oils may stop the moult, but if no responce after a few weeks consult a vet.

Vomiting And Diarrhoea
Most causes of vomiting are linked with gastritis and most of diarrhoea with enteritis. If untreated, either is likely to lead to the other. If your dog is obviously ill or has a temperature then consult your vet as soon as convenient.

Ear Disorders
Discharge from the ear.indicates an infection of the outer ear. THINGS TO LOOK FOR. 1 gritty, black material. 2 runny, smelly black discharge. 3 thick yellow/green discharge. 4pain, 5 ear flap swelling 6 apparent deafness. POSSIBLE CAUSES. Depending on the discharge, the cause could be mites ( gritty discharge ), yeasts ( runny black discharge or bacterial infections thick yellow/green discharchge ). THESES CONDITIONS SHOULD BE EXAMINED AND TREATED BY A VET.

AGE TO BUY A PUPPY.
when you have found your ideal puppy, it is natural to want to take him home as soon as possible.there is much discussion about when is the best time to take a puppy from his mum and littermates _ some say as early as possible, while others advise waiting, to give the dog time to learn all he needs from the bitch and other pups. i prefer to let puppies go at around seven weeks, i surpose every breeder has there own idea of when the  right time is. but i find with newfoundlands they are better going at seven weeks , because they grow so fast and a seven week old newfie can rough and tumble a little bit to boisterous with one an other which means they could do a lot of harm to one an other.and my puppies are always very well socialised, as my grandchildren come and play with them, and my family and myself play a lot with them. in fact they are real stop wokers.
